Our History: From Fountain Pens to the Cloud
Our story began in the 1930s with Louis Muenks. Operating out of a storefront on Lackland Road, Louis served as a local official and Notary Public. As federal income taxes became a reality for the “average folk” during the war era, they all needed to be signed by a Notary Public. And as Louis notarized each return, he often found himself correcting errors – and so Muenks Tax Company was founded in 1941. As the former President of the Bank of Overland, Louis used his math expertise to guide his neighbors through the complex new filings.
In 1966, we established our permanent home at 9621 Lackland Road, and the business that started with mechanical calculators and fountain pens grew into their first Hazeltine computer, and a second and third generation.
A Tradition of Service
The foundation of Muenks Tax was further strengthened by Louis’s son, Richard Muenks, and his wife, Evelyn. With over 55 tax seasons together, many of our long-term clients still fondly remember Richard’s booming laugh and endless supply of (bad) jokes, balanced by Evelyn’s steady hand guiding the office from the front desk.
As the business grew, all five of Richard and Evelyn’s sons joined the company. Today, their son Donn Muenks carries on the leadership; as the third-generation owner for nearly thirty years, Donn inherited both the family legacy and his father’s role as our “Chief Jokester”, ensuring that tax season remains a light-hearted and familial experience for everyone who walks through our doors.
Evolution Throughout the Generations
Each era of Muenks Tax has brought new strengths to our clients. Donn’s nephew Matt has worked at Muenks Tax Company for many years, and now Donn’s daughter Cassandra is the fourth generation focused on leading our transition into the digital age by implementing cloud-based systems, secure client portals, and high-level data encryption while maintaining a focus on personal, friendly service.
Our Extended Family
While the Muenks name is on the door, our success is a team effort. We are incredibly proud of our dedicated staff, including several non-family employees who have been with us for 25 to 35 years. These experts are an integral part of our story; their loyalty and deep institutional knowledge allow us to provide a level of continuity and care for our many inter-generational clients that is rare in today’s world.
